On the Red Table Talk’s weekly episode, all three women opened up on ‘Mental Health issues affected the whole family’.
Gloria Estefan explained that she was feeling “very good in my own skin” And where there was not a case in teenage, there was a stretch.
She explained: “He lost his ability to speak, he couldn’t walk, he would stand up to try to go to the bathroom and he would fall and he would soil himself.”
“I would have to bathe him. He would be crying, embarrassed. That’s what would kill me.”
After this she was just thinking about the gun, her father kept in home by keeping the mental health aside.
She added: “I knew where that gun was and I started having desperation thoughts.”
“I remember going to the place thinking, okay the gun is there, but what if instead I hang myself because that might be bloody? I had even picked out the tree that I might do it on.”
Gloria Estefan recalled: “Then I thought, okay, hold, hold, my mom’s gonna find me, my sister, I’m not gonna be here for her.”
“What got me through that moment was thinking of others, thinking of other people I loved. I knew it would destroy my family.”
