Rowan Atkinson began playing Mr. Bean in 1990 in a 15-part series that he created with Richard Curtis, an award-winning writer. The series officially concluded in 1995 and although it has been 25 years now, the lovable Mr. Bean’s childlike attitude and general physical humor resonates with audiences now just as much as it did then.

Rowan Atkinson explained this to The Times saying: “Because the comedy is so physical and language-agnostic, it’s really one of those great brands where you know that it’s going to have a global reach, because anyone can enjoy it.

“There are so many different sketches that people will continue to watch their favorite moments. The comedy is so good that people can watch it again and again.”

During an appearance on the Graham Norton show in 2018, Rowan Atkinson admitted that it wasn’t likely he was going to return to the role of Mr. Bean. ‘I doubt he will ever reappear.’ He said, disclosing that the reason was because he felt like he had done all he could with the character.
‘But, never say never.’ He added.

He also revealed that people sometimes didn’t recognize him, despite his famous role, explaining: ‘One man said, ”You are the spitting image of Mr. Bean”. When I told him I was, he said, ”I bet you wish you were”.

The official Mr. Bean account has garnered a mind-blowing 99 million followers on Facebook. This has made it the biggest television page on Facebook. The fictional character also has 7.5 million followers on Instagram, 2 million followers on TikTok and 30 million followers on YouTube. Who could have guessed that this television sensation from over 2 decades ago would become one of the most successful and lucrative digital brands today?
